One perfect sunny day I discovered that approximately
10,000 virus infected messages are quietly laying in my
mailbox and humbly waiting for my attention. Being somewhat
surprised, I paid some attention to the situation and
quickly discovered that these messages are 980 megabytes
in size. The bright perspective of downloading all of
them through my dial-up connection was not an entirely
good idea. That day Kill Mail
was born.
In short, Kill Mail
is a tool that deletes unwanted mail from your mailbox
according to the rules you define. Rules are your instructions
that explain to the program which mail you want to receive
and what is spam or virus infected mail. Being instructed
this way, the program accesses your mailbox and deletes
everything that fits the "bad mail" category
and leaves everything else intact. Next, you run your
regular mail client and receive mail that survived the
cleanup performed by Kill
Mail. If you discover that something
bad has slipped into your mailbox (for example, when
a new generation of a virus appears on the Internet),
you don't have to download any program updates, service
packs, reference lists etc. You simply correct your
set of rules and this new nuisance ceases to exist for
you.
Is it unique?
Not at all. Without any doubts, there are lots of similar
programs. Nevertheless, we decided to write our own.
First of all, Kill Mail
is fast, much faster that anything we've seen.
Second, it does not download any mail to your computer
for local analysis, thus dramatically reducing your
traffic and time you spend online (recall my story about
10.000 virus infected messages and you'll understand
that this is important). Third, it's (more or less,
you know...) free of bugs. Fourth, it's completely free
for use. Fifth, due to the fact that the program implements
and uses plugins, its functionality may be widely extended
even by a third-party developers. And last but not least,
mail management is such an important thing so we could
not entrust this crucial task to anybody else.
In any case, we suggest you to try Kill
Mail too, chances are you'll like it
as much as we like it.
SpamPal
SpamPal is a free
advanced spam filtering software that implements a completely
different spam detection strategy. It detects spam by
querying huge Internet databases of known spammers.
The only problem with SpamPal is that it is really sloooow.
Combining the power of both programs - SpamPal and Kill
Mail - you can achieve extraordinary
spam protection.
As an extra bonus, Kill
Mail knows how to deploy SpamPal advanced
mail filtering features and does this much more seamlessly
than any other SpamPal aware mail client. For example,
you can bypass SpamPal in a single keypress. Also, Kill
Mail can load SpamPal when necessary
and unload it when its no longer needed.
Program status
The program is freeware. You are allowed to do almost
anything with the program except for selling and/or modifying
it. You'll have to accept the terms of License Agreement
before installing the program.
Supported platforms
and system requirements
Windows 98/ME, Windows NT4/2000/XP/2003.
Screen resolution should be 800x600 or higher.
Any number of POP3 accounts.
Please note that currently Kill
Mail works only with POP3 mail accounts.
IMAP accounts are not supported.
Installation/Eradication
Kill Mail
comes with an automatic installation program with full
uninstall support so this should not be a problem. Just
download the program from the link above and execute
the installation program. Use Control Panel -> Add/Remove
Programs applet to uninstall the program.
In any case, please rest assured that we don't write
anything into the system registry (except for the information
necessary for uninstallation) or system folders.
Plugins
Yes, Kill Mail
uses plugins (Ta-da!..).
This means that its functionality can be easily extended
with relatively small and simple software modules. Great
news is that this can be done even by a third-party
developers who usually don't have access to the source
code of the main program.
If you're going to write a plugin for Kill
Mail, just download Kill Mail Plugin
SDK from the link above. It contains all the necessary
information and header files required to develop plugins
in C/C++ or Assembly languages. In addition, the SDK
contains full source code of some plugins included in
the main package.
Can I help?
Thank you for this question. Well, writing software
takes time. In case of freeware applications the only
"reward" the programmer receives back is often
just a bunch of mail messages asking (sometimes demanding)
to explain completely obvious things (s)he needs to
answer and nothing more. And the net result is rather
predictable: "Wish I never write and publish this
program!". Eventuallly, the author loses any interest
towards his program and completely stops developing
it.
If you don't want this to happen, you can help us in
a variety of ways. First of all, you can consider purchasing
one of our commercial programs.
Second, you can donate
us some amount of money. Third, any corrections and
enhancements to the contents of this site and software
documentation are greatly appreciated. Also, if you
are a professional artist or graphic designer you can
help us with graphic elements (icons, bitmaps, backgrounds
etc.) for our programs.
